Distracted driving is more than just annoying. It’s a serious issue that leads to crashes every day. The victims of those crashes may suffer from serious injuries or even die as a result of one driver’s bad decision.
Some people think that getting distracted for a few seconds isn’t a big deal. However, thinking critically about what can happen in just a few moments, you realize that looking away from the road, even for two or three seconds, is long enough to cross the centerline, go off the road or crash into the rear of a stopped vehicle. There are many things that could happen, all leading to significant collisions.
Approximately nine fatalities happen each day as a result of distracted driving. Around 25% of all crash fatalities have been linked to distracted driving as well.
The best tip is to keep your phone out of your reach whenever you’re behind the wheel. You need to focus on the road, and distractions like text messages, incoming calls or emails could take your mind or eyes off the road.
One way to avoid the temptation of using your phone is to lock it and set it out of your reach. Another possibility is to keep it in your trunk or inside your center console. You could also turn off your phone, set it to silent or put it on airplane mode, so you won’t be distracted by the sound of incoming messages.
These are a few ideas for keeping yourself focused on driving. If another driver hits you because of distractions, they should be held liable.
